Принята на вооружение в 1955 г. Главный конструктор - А.Э. Нудельман, КБТМ. Тактико-технические данные этой пушки были весьма высоки. По сравнению с предыдущими образцами она отличалась рядом оригинальных решений и стала основным оружием истребителей. Состояла на вооружении около 40 лет. , Скорострельность - 900 выстр/мин. Начальная скорость - 780 м/с Масса пушки - 66 кг.
