Wandbeschriftung: Im Mittelalter wurde dies Haus als Wohnturm benützt, 1357–1429 sind lombardische Geldausleiher Besitzer, daher ist es Gawerschen–auch Lamparterturm genannt.
1429 verkauft der Lamparter Thoman Pelleti das Haus an Götz Escher, Stammvater der Escher vom Luchs. Dieses Geschlecht bleibt Besitzer bis 1810.——
1429 bis ca. 1550 Escherturm, dann Brunnenturm genannt. 1810 Übergang vom Junker Georg Escher, a. Gerichtsherr von Berg am Irchel, an Lehrer Kaspar David Hardmeyer,
Gründer einer Privatschule, 1819 Blindenanstalt der Zürcher Hülfsgesellschaft. 1826 Blinden– und Taubstummenanstalt — 1838 Armenschule der Hülfsgesellschaft.
1836 Städt. Gemeindeschule. 1877–78 Umbau. 1879 Volks–und Gewerbeschule, Wohn–u. Geschäftshaus. 1942 Turm–u. Wohnhaus als Baudenkmal renoviert.
